Self Defense
Chin Na, the self-defense component of the Chinese Arts, is found in every form and every movement of kung fu practice.  Literally translated to mean "to seize and control" Chin Na is the ultimate martial art tool for a system that calls upon Buddhism and Taoism as its philosophical foundation.  In the study of Chin Na, we are often fond of saying that one does not need to become a violent person, one does not need to learn to harm and cause others pain -- one needs only to seize and control.  And that is what Chin Na is all about.  At its very basic level, China is the study of joint locking, muscle separation and cavity presses.  As one progresses in the practice, the knowledge of human anatomy, the understanding of Chi channels and energy flow, allows for training in sealing the breath and sealing the veins and arteries.  Throughout the practice, however, it is a practical, no-nonsense form of self-defense.

A typical Chin Na class is conducted with individuals working in pairs, practicing individual technique and two person forms training.

SLB instructors provide detailed explanations and positive reinforcements for learning over 300 beginner and advanced techniques with repetitive practice helping individuals to adopt the most effective techniques as their own personal self-defense tools.  Focus on quick, relaxed and powerful execution of technique ensures that students build the proper muscle memory and instinctive response to any challenging situation.

All classes include not only the SLB system of building on progressively more complex techniques, but also always offer the training and instruction in how to effectively counter those techniques.
