Young Scholar Warriors

"Teach a child only to punch and kick, and you should not be surprised when punching and kicking is that child's first
   response to conflict."

Youth Programs
The Young Scholar Warrior program at SLB addresses teh very unique needs of today's youth.

Training in
Shao Lin Kung Fu allows students to explore both the physical and mental disciplines ofthe art, to come to understand their strengths as individuals and to follow their own path of training.  There is a place for teamwork, and a place for competition.  However, teh emphasis in the Shao Lin Arts is on individual growth and accomplishment.  We call our overall youth program the Young Scholar/Warrior Program because it is designed to encourage not just a child's physical growth (the warrior side), but also that child's scholarly (intellectual) side.  And in Chinese culture, there is no greater individual than the scholar/warrior ... the athlete, poet, philosopher of ancient times.

Tiny Tigers (Ages 5 & 6)

The Tiny Tigers Program at SLB is a preliminary martial arts training course that focuses on building 5 & 6 year olds' capabilities:

  • All classes in a 12-week session begin with 3 weeks of intense fundamental skills development through movement repetition, games and activities and instructor guidance and story-telling.
  • Age-specific instruction includes a phenomenal teacher-student ratio of no more than five students to every one instructor.
  • Theme-based units teach children the fundamental skills of focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline and fitness.
  • Tiny Tigers meet every Wednesday from 4:15 to 4:45 in Studio  Two.

Dragon's Elite (Ages 7 & 8)

Our Dragon's Elite program addresses teh needs of elementary school children with a modified instrucitonal format based on the five-animal styles of Kung Fu.

  • Offered in a 12-week training session, this 45 minute class incorporates age-appropriate movement with lessons in discipline, fitness, promise-keeping, and the physical animal styles of dragon, crane, leopard, snake and tiger.
  • Each class accomodates student skills and abilities in a way that is not overtly demanding or intimidating but encourages personal growth and continued development.  Stories from ancient China help give our Dragon's Elite students a cultural context for understanding their art and provide them with motivation for continued growth.

Parent/Youth Class

Having raised four children of his own, SiFu was excited to implement our first parent/youth classes several years ago  Under his consistent guidance, the Parent/Yough program at SLB has grown to an amazing family of practitioners.  In this program, parents and their children can train side-by-side, encouraging each other, enjoying the "play" of kung fu and partricipating in their accomplishments together.

  • Taught in 12 - 15 week sessions (depending on the material being covered) the Parent/Youth class also begins with the core stances and movements of Kung Fu.  However, SiFu quickly branches out into some of the most interesting aspects of the art and has, in this past year, introduced not only preying mantis style, but the more esoteric weapons forms of the gan (a Chinese Sai), the straight sword, and even the double-ended spear.
  • Parent/Youth classes are held two nights each week (Mondays and Wednesdays) from 6 to 7 pm in Studio .

Tiny Tiger and Dragon's Elite Programs are offered at a 12-week session fee of $179.95. Uniform included.  NO long-term contracts required.  See general candidate pricing packages for youth/parent pricing.
